Gentamycin sulfate is a glycoside bactericidal antibiotic formed by linking aminosugar and ligand. It is the sulfate of gentamicin. It is mainly used for systemic or local infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ophthalmology is used for conjunctivitis, keratitis, etc. Oral administration can be used for intestinal infection or preparation for colon surgery; it can also be used in combination with metronidazole to reduce the infection rate of colon surgery. Gentamycin sulfate has good antibacterial effect on various Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria, and has good antibacterial effect on various Enterobacteriaceae bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Salmonella, Shigella Genus, Enterobacter, Serratia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa have good antibacterial effect. Neisseria and Haemophilus influenzae are moderately sensitive to this product. It also has certain effects on Brucella, Yersinia pestis, Acinetobacter, and Campylobacter fetus. It has a good antibacterial effect on about 80% of methicillin-sensitive strains of Staphylococcus (including Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococcus), but most of the methicillin-resistant strains are resistant to Gentamycin sulfate. The effect on Streptococcus and Streptococcus pneumoniae is poor, and Enterococcus is mostly resistant to this product. In recent years, Gram-negative bacilli resistant to gentamicin have increased significantly. When this product is used in combination with β-lactams, most synergistic antibacterial effects can be obtained.
