Our ceramic grinding burrs are typically comprised of 95% alumina or steatite. We usually use alumina for making reusable grinding burrs, and steatite for making disposable grinding burrs.
Alumina is a very hard, dense material of exceptional strength. It exhibits resistance to corrosion. Alumina grinders support refilling. In contrast, a steatite grinder has a top that can't unscrew, so once the pepper is used up, people will throw it away.

Steatite is a silicate ceramic material based on soapstone. Typical steatite materials are mainly composed of SiO2 and MgO. Sintered at approx. 1300 °C, steatite exhibits the following critical properties:

Q1. Which kind of ingredients can we grind?
You can grind various ingredients - black pepper, sea salt, rice, rosemary seeds, white granulated sugar, etc.
Q2: How does the ceramic burr grinders work?
Once the ingredients reach the grinder, several rows of teeth crush the ingredients to release its natural oils. Then, they grind them into the desired consistency. Adjust the distance between the teeth using methods described on the instruction manual, and you can control the coarseness of the ingredients.
